Re: Im Ok, you're Ok
Wed, June 29, 2005 - 11:36 AMHehehehe! Right-On Tony!
You know what completely astounds me though is that through the small group of members in this tribe I've come to the realization that many people have left the Adventist church only to join some other religion and often another conservative fringe wacky one. I applaud everyone who has thought out there belief structure and found a lifestyle that makes them feel good about themselves but I can't believe that any dogmatic conservative religion can truly make someone feel good about themselves. Maybe this is just the scars from Adventism talking and I truly don't mean to demean anyone's beliefs. I'm just honestly astounded that any thinking person would have the presence of mind to apostate Adventism and not have the presence of mind to apostate the whole dogma thing. Help me understand?

Fri, July 1, 2005 - 5:11 PMI agree Clay, I don't get the conservative religions either, they keep you from discovering yourself and finding truth. There the biggest blocks to having a life you can love.

Re: Im Ok, you're Ok
Tue, January 31, 2006 - 7:51 PMClay, for a lot of people there's a need to believe in something larger than themselves; for whatever reason it gives them comfort to believe that a large, powerful god exists to protect them from whatever. Like you indicated, too many trade in one superstition for some other supstition and never end up growing. Some, however, can give up one superstition for some other superstition and end up growing because of the change.
There are people who seek restrictive or abusive authority figures because they've never known anything else. I'm sure you know people in that situation. If they ever find themselves in a place where they're allowed to call their own shots they just become so overwhelmed that they go off the deep end. A lot of ex adventists end up there, which is very sad. -

Thu, April 6, 2006 - 7:31 PMGood point Erik. Thanks for trying to breath life into these discussions.
Oh, btw, I never liked believing in Santa Claus or the Tooth Fairy either but some people really gain a lot of happines from those myths too.
