Why Guilt???

After reading a few of the stunningly well written articles ...I am remimded of my recent venture into understanding the Adventist point of view. Why, in almost all of the religions that I have encountered is God portrayed as vengeful and judgemental. If it is the main goal of organized religion as a whole to lure people in, wouldn't it benefit them to show God as forgiving, understanding, fair and loving??? Even just to make a good show of it....
I was amazed at the force that most Adventists feel must be used to sway your thinking, not in a day or a week but NOW!
I asked, after feeling a bit uncomfortable about a lesson which focused on the second coming, if I must decide how I felt about all the information immediately. I was told ....."what if you die tommorrow????" "Don't you want to be included in the new kingdom....etc..."
I have still not decided what if ANY formal religion fits me...I am always trying to see things from different viewpoints and not become totally closed against anyones feelings. So far, I think that the Sufi relgion speaks to my heart most strongly......maybe I just like Rumi's poetry. Who know's? But I do think that the day that you become judgemental.....well, it just takes something away from trying to be empathetic to what others have experienced.
On a lighter note ...as a dancer, it was giving me fits trying to bring myself to give up dance. To me that is like air.....What kind of a religion takes such a harsh view on what is such a natural expression? Where is the harm in ballet....or flamenco.....even folkloric bellydance? I obviously don't get it!

    You ask very good questions, asked in simple and understandable ways. You will be happier if you stay away from "belief systems" and just exist. All formal religions are based on what somebody else believed and wrote down. No personal thinking necessary. My opinion is that Adventists aren't bad, just trapped. It's kind of an extreme religion that trains us to just accept and not question.
    Virtually all religious affiliation is due to the accident of birth, where and when you were born.
    I am very happy in the NOW, not knowing all the answere, living in the ambiguity. What IF I die tomorrow? I am much happier enjoying this moment, accepting it as it is, than if I were living in fear of tomorrow, or memories or regrets of yesterday or a minute ago.
    You dance Girl! What is is. Feel the joy of the moment.
    I've really been enjoying re-interpreting the value of things in the bible. If I read the references to the "kingdom of heaven" and think of that as meaning "NOW", wow, it is pretty cool.
    Hey, I gotta go, but will write more later. This moment eBay is calling me.

      Hi Jahan,

      I read a great book based in pure historic facts. I recommend it to any body who is afraid of GOD. It's called "A HISTORY OF GOD" by Karen Armstron . do a google search you will find it. take care peace!

      The accident of birth... That is genius, I'm going to borrow that one from you to use on some old "friends"

      Next time you're asked what if you died tomorrow, throw em off by saying one of the following -

      * Why? Is there something of mine that you want?
      * I've never ridden in a hearse before!
      * They'll take me to the morgue!
      * " " " " " funeral home!
      * " " " " " graveyard!
      * Well I guess I'll leave one more mess for you to clean up on my way out!
      * Will you take me to the taxidermist and hang me up in the church under a sign that says "Unsaved"?
      * If I do, will you put a funny hat on me for my funeral?

      Thinking back, these clownshoes were way too easy, just don't invite them in your head because they won't leave.

        OH!, and don't EVER feel bad about dancing. I bet Ellen G. White did it if she saw a cockroach or had a spider on her, or if you shot at her just below her feet.
